In May 2014, 100 WWII veterans are going on a road trip to Holland, in a convoy of 50 London Black Cabs. Aged 85-94, they’re travelling to the Netherlands to take part in Dutch National Liberation celebrations. This is all thanks to a charity – the London Taxi Benevolent Association for the War Disabled – and 50 great London Cabbies.
I’ve been working with this charity since 2012 as a sort of unofficial artist-in-residence. This blog, which I’ve used to document my work with the charity, came about directly from the inspiration I felt about the charity and the wonderful veterans I’ve met. I accompanied them on a trip to Holland in 2012, an extraordinary experience which has inspired me to develop a feature-length documentary about the next trip. It’s a great British story that needs to be told!
