In May 2012, 160 great men and women went on the mother of all road trips.
All WWII veterans, aged 85-94, they went to the Netherlands to take part in Dutch National Liberation celebrations. They travelled there and back in a convoy of 80 London Black Cabs, all thanks to a charity – the London Taxi Benevolent Association for the War Disabled – and 80 wonderful taxi drivers. The charity spent 18 months planning and raising money for this unique 5 day trip. I was lucky enough to go along as artist-in-residence.
This blog came about directly from the inspiration I felt about the trip, the charity and the wonderful veterans I met. I’m now going to be writing occasionally about my work and other developments since the trip to Holland.
