I’ve just heard from the taxi charity that two women who were Land Girls during the war are now coming on the trip to Holland, standing in at the last minute for two men who sadly can’t come due to illness. I normally think of men when I think of WWII veterans. Easy to forget somehow that women played a crucial role during the war too. The government started the Women’s Land Army in 1939. More help was needed on farms during the war to do ‘men’s work’, as so many men were called up by the military. I’ve seen Land Girls on the TV but I’ve never met a real Land Girl before! Can’t wait to meet them.
